So… 2020. What a year. This has been the weirdest year of my life. Never did I think I would be wasting a year of my 20s stuck in the house because of a global pandemic. I don’t really know how to describe 2020.
There have been some bad things to happen this year. Obviously, all our lives have been changed by the spread of a global pandemic which has affected every aspect of life. We have all had to cancel plans, put off big events and defer decisions that could have made 2020 a great start to a new decade. This year I have missed concerts and weddings that I was meant to be apart of but ultimately it has all been for the greater good. This year has been filled with personal difficulties such as loosing 3 family members we never had the chance to say goodbye too and trying to navigate normal life under strict restrictions. I had so many plans for this year, I was going to start saving for a house of my own and learn how to drive but fate obviously had other plans.
Although this year has been hard and filled with disaster, there have also been some great things to happen. Some of my best friends became parents for the first time, I am starting a new career and my family have been blessed with jobs that have supported us through some terrible times. When I look back at this year, yes, I will remember the losses I’ve suffered and the time I spent home instead of out enjoying life but I will also remember so many other things that will bring a smile to my face. I was able to spend extended time with my parents and sister, we could play games and watch movies and use time that we wouldn’t have normally had together. I was able to start this blog, read books and do projects I had been putting off due to lack of free time.
So, as a new year begins, I think we should all be looking forward and thinking of the positive. Lets just all make a silent agreement that 2021 might not ‘be our year’ but we should be making the most out of the situations we find ourselves in. So, lets say goodbye to 2020 and look forward into 2021.
