My Morning Routine

I posted a lockdown routine a few weeks ago and got some good feedback on it which I really appreciate. I wanted to write another post about my routine outside of lockdown but we still aren’t completely back to normal yet. In place of writing about my whole day I am going to tell you about my morning routine instead as I do this every day even when we aren’t in lockdown.

The first thing I do in the morning (just like everyone else) is wake up. I normally wake up around 9/10 when I don’t have something to wake up for. The second thing I do is some stretches to ease back pain. They are easy to do in bed and so I just do them for 5-10 minutes before getting up. I then make my bed. After I have got out of bed, I get myself a glass of cold water to drink while I take multivitamins, allergy meds and anything else I need to.

Next thing I do is go downstairs to have my breakfast. I normally have cereal if I’m getting ready to go somewhere to save time but when I have the time, I will cook myself something like bacon or eggs. I will also have a cup of green tea while I eat.

After I have had breakfast, I start actually getting ready. I brush my teeth, use mouthwash and floss before hopping into the shower. When I’m in the shower I will obviously wash my body but I also shave and use my facial cleansers. I also never wash my hair in the morning because I’m too tired and it takes way too long to dry.

After I get out of the shower I will moisturise and do my skin care routine. I did a whole post about my skin care routine so if that’s something you’re interested in reading about then you can go and check that out.

After I have done my skin care routine, I start doing my makeup. I don’t actually enjoy doing my makeup and I hate wearing it but I feel self-conscious without it. Because I don’t like doing my makeup, I normally put on a TV show to watch while I’m doing it and this means it takes me ages to do.

Once my makeup is done, I do my hair. I don’t like putting heat on my hair too often so I will normally just put it up in a bun or pony tail. Because my hair is a mixture of straight, wavy and curly it seems to just do what it wants so sometimes heat is unavoidable. If I have to do something to it, I normally straighten it and save the curls for a special occasion.

After my hair and makeup is done and I basically look like a different person, I get dressed. My style is very different depending on what I’m dressing for. I’m still experimenting and figuring out what I like so sometimes it’s a hit or a miss. I dress smart for work but if I am not doing anything in particular, I will just wear jeans and a t-shirt. I post a monthly look book so if that’s something you would like to see you can check that out.

After I am dressed, I will do final touches to my outfit and myself. I put on deodorant, perfume and choose the jewellery that matches my outfit. When I say ‘choose’ I don’t actually, I normally end up wearing the same jewellery every day. All silver all the time. I then throw anything I need into my bag.

Once I am actually ready, I have to tidy up my room a little. I make some mess when I am doing makeup and choosing clothes that I don’t want to come home too so I force myself to tidy it all away before I leave. Before I go, I also check through my emails to make sure I don’t miss anything important.

Finally, if I have to leave the house then I do it. I try not to leave things until later in the day, putting stuff off just makes it worse so I try to get things done as soon as I can.

So, that’s my morning routine. I sometimes miss steps out if I’m in a rush and if I’m not in a rush, I will spend a long time getting ready. I think I’m like most people when I say I spend as much time in bed as possible before getting up but I think having a morning routine is a good way to ease yourself into the day.
