Day in my life: Lockdown

With lockdown being extended for a minimum of three weeks we need to remember life will go on after all of this and my way of coping with being at home is structuring my day, this helps me not feel like I am wasting my time and doing nothing. The worst thing you could do it spend every day in bed watching Netflix. I have given myself a daily routine to follow to make sure I don’t end up doing nothing all day, every day for weeks.

00 – I normally wake up around 9:00, I’ll lie in bed and get my Alexa to tell me the news, weather and then play music to wake me up. When I get out of bed, I make it straight away, this stops me getting back into bed and makes me feel like my life is put together. After that I go and make myself some breakfast.

00 – After I’ve had breakfast, I’ll do the rest of my morning routine (teeth, wash, skin care and hair). It’s so easy to stop looking after yourself because we can’t go out but it makes me feel normal to do what I would normally do if I had to leave the house (minus the makeup). I am also making sure I get dressed every day, spending the day in my PJs is great, but I wouldn’t do it normally so I’m not going to do it now. I then give my room a tidy, because I’m spending most of my time in my room it seems to be getting messier quicker than usual and it’s important to make sure you are in a clean space.

00 – After I’ve got ready and my room is tidy, I like to sit and go through social media for a little while or spend a crazy amount of time scrolling through Tiktok. I also check through my emails and do anything that needs doing every other day such as hovering, changing my bedding, emptying my bin, laundry, etc.

00 – Then I have my lunch, I usually eat it in the living room and spend time watching TV as well. I always drink a glass of water while eating and then have a cup of green tea once I’m finished.

00 – After having lunch, I will then do any jobs that need doing around the house. I live with my parents and younger sister so there is always something that needs doing or cleaning. Once I’ve done some jobs, I sit down to do some work for a few hours. I don’t do work at the weekends to try and keep a sense of normal life, so I will usually play some games with my family, watch some movies or paint.

00 – Doing jobs and work takes quite a long time so I do nothing else until 5pm when my dogs need feeding and walking. I use this as my way to get out the house for a while, the fresh air is so good after being stuck in the house all day.

00 – After walking the dogs, we usually have dinner. My Dad makes dinner but if he has work to catch up on someone else will take care of it. We eat in the dining room and often play a game of Uno at the table after we have all finished.

00 – Once we have all finished eating, we will usually go into the living room and watch a movie or TV series. We are currently watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Friday Night Dinner, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Killing Eve so if an episode has aired, we will watch that. We are also using the lockdown to do themed nights like cinema night, spa night, come dine with me, house parties (just us four) and games nights so we will do that if we don’t want to watch a movie.

00 – Before I get ready for bed, I will do a quick home workout. Because I’m not up and about as much, I’ve been doing these home workouts just to keep healthy. I normally don’t do a workout if we have been playing Just Dance or have taken the dogs on quite a long walk that day.

30 – After doing a quick workout, it’s time to get ready for bed. I will then do my normal night routine, wash my retainer and sometimes do a facemask then get into my PJs.

30 – Once I am ready for bed, I watch some TV. I use Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Now TV to watch whatever series I’m obsessed with at the time. Right now, I am watching Fleabag.

30 – After watching an episode or two, I read for a bit until I am tired. Right now, I am reading the first Game of Thrones book and I am obsessed with it. I usually will read until about midnight or 1am before going to sleep.

This would not be a normal day for me if I had to work and could leave the house, but I am making the best of a bad situation. I realise most people’s day are looking very similar right now but soon we will all be back to normal, just think about how you can tell future generations that you handled this historical event like a champ!
